The European Research College London (ERCL) is pleased to announce the 2025 Call for proposals under the ERCL-GREAT scheme – Grants for Researchers Exceeding Ambitious Targets.

This grant programme supports ambitious, high-quality research proposals submitted by external researchers who wish to join the ERCL academic environment in London. The current call is open to projects in the following strategic areas:

  • Economics and Business Studies
  • Psychological and Learning Sciences

Successful applicants will receive long-term support, access to fully equipped research facilities in central London, and funding of up to £180,000 per year for a period of 4–5 years.

Submission deadline: 20 June 2025
Project start date: 1 September 2025

Use this checklist to verify that your application is complete and complies with the official submission requirements.

General submission requirements

  •  The proposal consists of Parts A, B, and C, combined into a single PDF file
  • The file has been uploaded via the official ERCL online submission form
  • The document complies with the required structure and character limits as set out in the Proposal Submission Guidelines
  • All sections are written in English and are clearly labelled

Part A – Administrative and summary information

  • Project title (max. 150 characters incl. spaces)
  • Project acronym
  • Duration (in months)
  • Research area selected (Economics and Business Studies / Psychological and Learning Sciences)
  • 5–7 keywords
  • Project abstract (max. 1,100 characters incl. spaces)
  • Preliminary budget with breakdown and totals
  • Resources section (max. 8,000 characters incl. spaces) with justification of requested costs
  • Time commitment stated: full-time, location primarily London

Part B – Research proposal

  • Extended synopsis (max. 5,400 characters incl. spaces)
  • Full research proposal (max. 21,600 characters incl. spaces), including:
    • Objectives and state of the art
    • Contribution to the field
    • Research gap and relevance
    • Methodology and work plan
    • Interdisciplinary elements (if applicable)
    • References (not counted in character limit)

Part C – Applicant information

  •  Curriculum Vitae and track record (max. 5,400 characters incl. spaces), including:
    • Personal and academic background
    • Up to 10 key research outputs
    • Relevant awards and peer recognition
    • Explanation of author roles and joint authorship
    • Any career breaks or broader contributions (optional)

Budget and resources

  • Budget includes direct personnel, purchases, and internal services
  • Indirect costs are excluded
  • Budget reflects full project duration (4–5 years)
  • Resources section includes clear, realistic justification
  • Budget aligns with project goals and methodology
  • Budget is submitted as preliminary and non-binding, subject to panel review

Submission and deadline

  • All sections are complete, final, and accurate
  • Proposal uploaded via the ERCL online submission form
  • Submission completed before 20 July 2025, 23:59 CEST
