ERUNI Open Research

Activities

ERUNI Open Research is a research institute whose mission is to carry out primarily basic but also applied and contract research connected to accredited study programmes and other areas referred below, which result from current societal needs. We also involve our students of bachelor’s, follow-up master’s and doctoral degree programmes.

The team of the research institute consists of important, internationally acclaimed academics, researchers and leading practitioners. This network gives us a unique opportunity to link basic and applied research, the results of which can be subsequently presented in consultancy and teaching. The members of our research team are regular holders of scientific and research grants. It is an international team consisting of researchers, academics, business experts, representatives of central banks and governments of the OECD countries.

We focus mainly on Economics, Economic Policy, Law, Politics, Public Administration, Taxes, and other social disciplines. More information about our research activities can be found in the Research section.

Locations

The ERUNI Open Research is located in Prague and Ostrava. The ERUNI Open Research Prague is located in beautiful historical premises in the centre of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, located in the very heart of the European Union. Prague is home to approximately 1.3 million inhabitants of many nationalities and is accessible from all over the world through the international Václav Havel Airport Prague. Designed by famous architect Jan Kotěra, the building of the ERUNI Open Research Prague offers many opportunities for work and relaxation. The building is easily accessible with subway and any other means of transport, and you can find the well-known Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge in its immediate vicinity. The desirable location of our university’s research centre in Prague offers both prime conditions for our research activities and a rich social and cultural life. Prague is among the ten best places in the world in terms of academic and research conditions and is the fifth most visited city in Europe as well.

In addition to Prague, our university’s research institute also operates in Ostrava agglomeration. The ERUNI Open Research Ostrava is located in beautiful and newly renovated premises, most of which are located in the grounds of the historical Hnojník Palace, not far from the university headquarters in Ostrava, which is the third largest city in Czechia. Its wider agglomeration and nearby cities have around half a million inhabitants, and the entire adjacent Moravian-Silesian Region counts 1.2 million. The Faculty of Doctoral Studies is also part of our university campus at Hnojník Palace. There is an expansive garden that is suitable for both work and relaxation. The stunning Beskid Mountains on the Czech, Polish and Slovak borders can be reached within a walking distance. Together with two important recreational reservoirs, the Beskid Mountains offer many possibilities of summer and winter activities. The campus in the premises of Hnojník Palace is easily accessible via the European highway network and is located in a quiet environment, though only five minutes from a highway connection. Its highway connection also leads to the nearby international airport in Ostrava, or you can use the international airport in Katowice, Poland, which takes an hour to reach by car.

Our researchers can therefore choose to work in Prague, in one of the most visited and most attractive European cities. The oldest university north of the Alps was founded in the 14th century, being one of the oldest universities in the world. The metropolis is also known for its friendly and convenient environment for the academia and other communities as well. If a less busy environment is preferred, a place of work can be found directly in Ostrava or its metropolitan area that is closer to nature and with the nearby mountains, in the not far campus of Hnojník Palace. Prague and Ostrava are also very well connected with a direct express train line.

The European Research University is open to cooperation with researchers from all over the world, as long as they share our values and mission and if they respect our strategic goals. Cooperation can be pursued externally, although we prefer an internal employment relationship in our research centre either in Prague or Ostrava (Hnojník Palace). We would like to offer opportunity not only to respected senior researchers, but also to postdocs with interesting professional research history. We also accept graduates of master’s degree programmes, who can simultaneously study a full-time or part-time doctoral programme in English or Czech.

If interested in working at our research centre, please contact Lenka Fabíková, Directress of the ERUNI Open Research Ostrava and Dean of the Faculty of Doctoral Studies.
