About ERC Oxford.
ERC Oxford is situated in one of the world’s most respected academic cities and builds upon its long-standing tradition of excellence in critical thinking and scholarship. The centre offers an environment for focused, independent research, grounded in academic freedom and institutional support.
ERC Oxford focuses on two core research areas:
- social and cultural analysis,
- mathematical and physical sciences.
The first area includes research in sociology, demography, social and human geography, media and communication studies, and social policy. Scholars address the dynamics of modern societies, exploring topics such as identity, inequality, public discourse, social change, and spatial justice. The area encourages interdisciplinary approaches to understanding contemporary cultural and structural transformations.
The second area encompasses pure and applied mathematics, theoretical and experimental physics, and statistical methods. It supports research in fields such as mathematical modelling, number theory, quantum physics, complex systems, and data analysis — with both foundational and applied perspectives.
ERC Oxford provides researchers with the opportunity to pursue ambitious academic work without the burden of teaching responsibilities. The centre offers internal funding opportunities, mentoring, and access to a supportive academic community that values originality, integrity, and collaboration.
We welcome expressions of interest from researchers committed to advancing scholarship in our core areas, and who seek to engage in a supportive and intellectually grounded academic community.
