Shaping knowledge through research

Our research focus.

The European Research University is currently primarily an economically oriented institution, offering academic degrees predominantly in the fields of economics, economic policy, business, administration and management. Our research activity is therefore largely aligned with these disciplines. A key priority is to pursue socially relevant research with tangible impact, which is effectively integrated into our teaching. We also actively involve students in research from undergraduate level onwards.

In addition, a significant area of academic engagement at ERUNI is the field of law. A number of legal professionals contribute to our teaching and research, either as members of staff or external collaborators. Moreover, we are increasingly engaged in a broader spectrum of the social sciences and the humanities. Our research extends to educational science, sociology, psychology, ethics, religious studies, and philosophy. We regard these fields as essential to a comprehensive understanding of contemporary society, and they provide a valuable complement to our economic and legal expertise.

To support our international research agenda, ERUNI has established the European Research College (ERC) - a decentralised network of independent research hubs operating under foreign legal frameworks. The ERC fosters international collaboration, supports access to funding opportunities, and advances high-quality research across disciplines and national contexts.

We warmly welcome scholars from around the world to join our research efforts, whether in senior academic roles or through postdoctoral positions.

Research projects.

As a research-oriented institution, ERUNI undertakes a broad spectrum of academic projects, with a primary focus on basic research. We are also actively engaged in applied and contract research, particularly where it aligns with the university’s academic profile.

Our research activity is closely intertwined with our accredited study programmes, fostering a strong link between scholarship and teaching. We place particular emphasis on the transfer of research findings into the classroom, ensuring that our students benefit from the most current academic knowledge and methodological developments. At the same time, we regard student involvement in research as an integral part of the learning process. Students are encouraged to participate in research projects from undergraduate level, allowing them to develop critical skills and engage with real-world academic inquiry from the outset of their studies.

Just as the Danube River connects key European capitals, the journal fosters an intellectual network among scholars across Europe committed to the advancement of the social sciences and humanities. While DANUBE maintains a strong European orientation, it welcomes contributions from researchers worldwide whose work aligns with the journal’s aims and scope. Since 2021, DANUBE has been published by De Gruyter—one of the world’s most respected academic publishers with a history dating back nearly 270 years—in collaboration first with PRIGO University and now with the European Research University. The journal is available in print and, more importantly, as an open access electronic resource. It is indexed in all major citation databases and has been included in Scopus since 2010.

Editorial Leadership

The Editor-in-Chief of DANUBE is Assoc. Prof. Ondřej Dvouletý, who provides overall editorial leadership and is responsible for maintaining the journal’s academic quality and integrity. He oversees the editorial board, ensures the rigour of the peer-review process, and guides the journal’s long-term development. He may be contacted regarding editorial policy, manuscript appeals, or potential collaborations. For general queries or submission-related matters, please contact the editorial office.
